SanDisk USB Drive Offers Free Automatic Online Back-Up

There’s not usually a lot to say about USB drives except that they are getting much bigger, like the 32GB DiskGO USB stick, or, they have added something useful, like the Kingston Data Traveller Reader with an internal SD, MMC and SDHC card slot.

SanDisk is joining those ranks now though with its Cruzer Titanium Plus, a 4GB USB Flash drive that offers automatic online backup for every file copied to the drive. Think of it as back-up for your back-up. Each drive comes with 6 months of free online back-up via BeInSync, part of Amazon.

It could be very handy for when you’re out and about and need to access your files from a computer but just forgot the to bring your USB stick with you - happens more often that I'd like to remember. Other security features for the new drives include:

- A rugged, crush-resistant metal case, reducing the risk of physical damage.

- Optional security by turning on password protection – with AES hardware data encryption – for all files stored on the drive, preventing other people from accessing user data if the drive is lost or stolen.

- Two years of free lost-and-found service from BoomerangIt, to increase the chances users will get the drive back if it’s misplaced. Cruzer Titanium Plus comes with a BoomerangIt sticker to put on the drive; if the drive is recovered, the owner typically pays shipping costs and provides a small reward [possibly US only this].

The company that has built a mini-empire with products designed to let you watch your TV from anywhere in the world is set to embrace high-definition (HD) with the unveiling of the Slingbox Pro HD.

The Pro HD updates the Slingbox Pro by allowing you to stream HD content. The snag though is that you’ll not be streaming it around the globe [bandwidth issues, you know] but to other TVs around the home. The box promises 1080i streaming with 5.1 sound. Don’t hold your breath though since it’s not due until Q3. It will cost around £200.

In addition, the company is also promising SlingPlayer client software for the Blackberry and will be demonstrating it running on the Pearl 8120 at next week’s CES 2008 show.

This will finally let some Blackberry owners finally watch TV on their phones – something users of Windows Mobile, Symbian and Palm-based devices have already been able to do with existing Sling products.
